This chapter provides a broad survey of the complex discipline of Biomedical Informatics with special emphasis on the key emerging sub-disciplines such as translational informatics, clinical research informatics, consumer health informatics, and the informatics of the “omics” sciences, systems biology, and nanotechnology.
